HuggleGroup™ is proud and humbled to honor true heroism with a special tribute to K-9 Chief — and to support the incredible mission of Project K-9 Hero.
On February 28th, 2026, K-9 Chief answered his final call. Detectives had located a violent felon connected to multiple robbery and torture incidents. After a pursuit and vehicle disablement, the suspect fled on foot. Chief was deployed.
As Chief and his handler closed in, the suspect drew a firearm and fired at Chief’s handler. In an extraordinary act of bravery, Chief leaped between the gunfire and his handler, taking the bullet himself. He was struck in the left eye, resulting in the loss of his eye and a broken jaw.
Chief’s courageous action saved his handler’s life.
At just three years old, this heroic injury forced Chief into early retirement — leaving his handler facing significant financial burdens.
