The result is a landmark hard bop recording that highlights Clark as both a commanding performer and a gifted composer, with four of the album's six tunes penned by Clark himself.

From the moody, minor-key title piece to the bright and fleet-footed "Bootin' It" and the sprightly "Shoutin' on a Riff," Clark's originals sit beautifully alongside two well-chosen standards, including a stunning ballad reading of "It Could Happen to You" and a Gershwin showcase in "Love Walked In."
