What is the difference between the SureFire X400V and the X400VH? 

The main difference is how they fit in a holster. The X400VH Vampire is built specifically for the MasterFire Rapid Deploy Holster. It has special slots on the front bezel that lock into this holster. The standard X400V does not have these slots. If you want to use the MasterFire holster that turns your light on automatically, you need the "H" model.

Why do I need the IR (Infrared) mode? 

You need IR if you use Night Vision Goggles. The IR light and laser on the x400vh b irc are invisible to the naked eye. This lets you see where you are going and aim your weapon in total darkness without giving away your position to bad guys who do not have night vision.

What is the benefit of the TIR-shaped white light?

The TIR (Total Internal Reflection) lens shapes the beam to give you the best of both worlds. It creates a tight, bright center spot that reaches out to 155 meters for long-range identification. At the same time, it provides a wide "halo" of softer light around the edges so you can still see your surroundings (peripheral vision) without losing focus on your target.

How does the MasterFire holster compatibility work? 

This light locks directly into the MasterFire holster system. When you pull your gun out of the holster, the light or laser turns on instantly and automatically. You do not have to press any buttons. This saves you time in an emergency.

Does this light work with a regular holster?

 It might fit some custom holsters, but it is shaped differently than standard lights. It is designed primarily for the MasterFire system. If you use a standard Kydex or leather holster, this light might not fit properly.

How long do the batteries last?

 It depends on which mode you use. The visible white light lasts for about 2.5 hours. The infrared mode lasts much longer—up to 16.75 hours. It uses two CR123A lithium batteries.

Is the laser visible to the naked eye?

 No. The laser on this model is an Infrared (IR) laser (850 nm). You can only see the dot if you are wearing night vision goggles.
